gas hogs

Because I've been running around like a chicken with my head cut off... I haven't had much time for blogging and I've missed it! I haven't had nearly enough laughs from Jen... or enough advice from the boy mommy bloggers - but oh have I had fun watching the boys play ball! Only 19 more days of teaching at school too- so I'm looking forward to doing all the things I haven't had time to do! Yippee. (like getting my hair done! - yep, still waiting on that!)

We've been too busy going from one game to the next... and loving every minute of it - until we have to go to the gas station to pay over $4 per gallon! Is that ridiculous or what!!! Since I have to fill up the Excursion every week at the tune of $130, and Tony has to fill up the Tahoe at least 2 or 3 times a week at $105 a pop - we've been trying to be really good about not doing any more driving than we absolutely have to.

Too bad we both have cars that only get about 10 miles to the gallon. However, we didn't have too many choices in vehicles that would accommodate 4 car seats - and now we have to consider the fact that we usually have at least a couple of extra kids with us whenever we go anywhere, so there's no chance of down sizing cars to try and get better gas mileage. All we can do is hope that gas doesn't go up to $5 a gallon. urggggg, can you imagine?

so much for that tax refund we're all supposed to get- they might as well give it to a gas station and save us the trouble of handing over the money!

Amen, to that last comment. I know the feeling of the gas pinch, I have an Expedition. But it hasn't hit $4.00 yet, here.

I feel your pain. Now we try to make arrangements to all go together, even if some of us don't have to be there until later, just to take one car. I drive a Yukon XL (the boy mover), huge gas hog. Luckily it can take E85, but I get less miles per gallon, so it is a trade off. My husband drives a Taurus, we are now using that as the family car.

It certainly makes us reevaluate the camping trips we had planned for this summer. I wish we could afford a third car (like a prius) for around town and then just park the boy mover until we have camping trips.

Yes the gas price has hit us mom's very hard! We have a full size Ford Van. My boy's are older now and I'm only the taxi driver for my 9 year old. So the van has been sitting in the drive. I can't afford to drive it. A couple of years ago we bought me a Sable that get's about 23 mpg this is great compared to the 12 we get in the van. Remember I'm not the taxi for the other boy's just the gas ATM. We have bought 2 small car's for them to get to school and sports. So it just never end's. with the gas.

Amen! We've got a Tahoe as well. Luckily I only have to fill it up about every 2 -3 weeks as I don't do a whole lot of running around.

We're at $3.50 here in Alabama and that's bad enough! If my kids were old enough I think we'd be breakin' out the bikes to go places! :)

Oh the joy that comes with the end of the school year! Not that the kids aren't bouncing off the walls or anything?

Hang in there and glad to hear that you are having so much fun with your boys.

I just filled up my sequoia to the tune of $80. This IS getting out of hand.

I found your blog a couple of weeks ago and love it. I'm a teacher too and have 3 boys. We have 13 days of school yet...whose counting...and I can't wait to be a full-time mom again. Beautiful family!

Wow! I thought gas was expensive in Ohio ( 3.60 ). We have 2 Chrysler Town & Countries that get about 20 MPG. I find I am much more careful now about combining errands.

I would love to find a car that can be powered by peddling (like a bicycle). Then I could harness my boys' excess energy!

Welcome back to the blog world!

Holy moly!! And I was complaining about the $70 I paid to gas up the minivan the other day! You so win that one. :)

I hear ya on the gas, girly. I have a Nissan Quest, and it only gets abot 18 mpg. I guess better than your SUV's!!! Gas here in DE is 3.55, and I just traveled up to PA for a birthday party. I thought about charging my BFF gas money just for going!!! That's not right, though, huh?
